The Navy is about to commission its newest Independence-class littoral combat ship (LCS), reports the Dept. of Defense.
The Tulsa will formally enter service during a Saturday ceremony in San Francisco, the department said on Wednesday.
The Tulsa is the 15th littoral combat ship to enter service and the eighth of the Independence class, noted a Navy release earlier this month.
The ship is the second to bear the city's name. The first USS Tulsa, an Asheville-class gunboat, served from 1923 to 1944, earning two battle stars during World War II.
