Taiwan has formally begun construction on its first indigenously developed submarine, reports the South China Morning Post.
On Tuesday, President Tsai Ing-wen presided over the ceremony at the CSBC Corp. shipyard in Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan.
Construction is scheduled to take 78 months, concluding in the third quarter of 2024, with sea trials following in 2025, said the shipbuilder.
The boats will be armed with Mk 48 Mod 6 torpedoes, UGM-84L Harpoon Block II anti-ship missiles...
