Commanders say Iraqi forces have begun an offensive to retake Islamic State-held towns near the nation's western border with Syria, reports Agence France-Presse.
A military operation began on Thursday in western areas of Anbar province, said one commander. The main targets are said to be the westernmost Iraqi towns of Aanah, Rawa and Al-Qaim along the Euphrates Valley.
