Afghan and U.S. forces have repelled a coordinated Taliban assault on a base in the southern Helmand province, reports Tolo News (Afghanistan).
On Friday, militants launched the assault on Camp Shorab, which houses the 215th Maiwand Corps, said the governor's office.
At least three suicide bombers participated in the attack, it said. At least six other attackers were killed.
Around 25 members of the Afghan security forces were killed and 15 injured in the attack, according to 215th Maiwand Corps officials.
A senior Afghan commander was among the dead, a military source told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
The defense ministry said that 12 militants launched the attack. Other sources indicated that there were 27 attackers, including seven suicide bombers.
