The legislature in Taiwan, known as the Yuan, has amended the tax laws, abolishing income-tax immunity for military personnel and some teachers, reports the Taipei Times.
Salaries for troops will become taxable in 2012, according to the revised law. About 135,000 military personnel are expected to be affected by the change, according to the Ministry of Finance.
Proponents said the change would lead to US$374.5 million more in tax revenues annually.
