Romanian troops in Iraq will be assigned to aid and training missions this year, Agence France-Presse reports.
A memorandum on the activities and status of Romanian troops has just been signed by the two governments.
Iraqi authorities invited Romanian troops to remain after the expiration of the U.N. mandate on the multinational coalition, said a spokesman for the Romanian Defense Ministry.
There are currently 500 Romanian troops in Iraq.
