Police backed by Brazilian soldiers have raided one of Rio de Janeiro's main suburbs as part of a crackdown against violent crime, reports Agence France-Presse.
The operation began at dawn on Wednesday in Niteroi, across the Bay of Guanabara from Rio.
About 2,600 security personnel are taking part. Their goal is to arrest 26 people and complete 34 search-and-seizure warrants, reported Globo.com.
