A senior U.S. Marine says the leaders of the largest tribe in Afghanistan's Helmand province have vowed to halt insurgent attacks and expel foreign fighters, the Wall Street Journal reports.
The Alikozai tribe of Sangin district made the agreement after 25 days of negotiations, said a provincial spokesman.
As part of the deal, the tribe also agreed to turn in homemade explosives in exchange for international aid, said Marine Maj. Gen. Richard Mills.
