The Afghan military says it is speeding up the training of tactical air controllers to direct strikes to support ground troops, reports the Stars and Stripes.
U.S. and NATO officials acknowledge that the Afghans do not have enough controllers, which are considered vital to responding to surprise attacks, ambushes and situations where quick air action is needed to prevent forces from being overrun.
