As of Friday morning, there was no word on the fate of Japanese hostages being held by Islamic State terrorists.
The deadline has passed for the demand that Japan pay a US$200 million ransom to free two hostages, reported the Wall Street Journal.
ISIS threatened to kill the hostages in a video released online on Tuesday. Tokyo was given 72 hours to pay the money. The deadline was estimated at Friday around 2:50 p.m., Tokyo time (or 12:50 a.m. Eastern time in the U.S.).
