Tokyo Suspends Military Base Work To Discuss Effort With Okinawa

The Japanese government has unexpectedly suspended construction on a controversial U.S. air base on the island of Okinawa, reports the Japan Times.
Work on a replacement facility for U.S. Marines Air Station Futenma will be halted from Aug. 10 to Sept. 9, said a Cabinet official on Tuesday.
The U.S. and Japan have agreed to relocate the Futenma base, which is located in a densely populated area in Okinawa, to Nago in the northern part of the island.
