The Japanese government is planning to buy an uninhabited island in the southwest part of the country to support U.S. military training, reports the Jiji Press (Tokyo).
Tokyo is expected to purchase Mageshima Island in Kagoshima prefecture for US$147 million by the end of March, said government sources on Wednesday.
An interim contract with the private development company that owns 99 percent of the island is expected to be prepared this week, reported the Asahi Shimbun.
