Technical Issue Derails Planned SLBM Test-Firing

A planned test launch of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) during a Russian navy exercise last week was halted at the last minute, according to Russian media cited by Reuters. 

On Oct. 17, the Delta III-class ballistic missile submarine Ryazan was scheduled to launch two R-29R (NATO: SS-N-23 Skiff) SLBMs from its location in the Sea of Okhotsk in Russia's Far East, reported the Vedomosti newspaper (Moscow).
