Talks Underway With Houthis To End War In Yemen, Says State Dept. Official

A senior U.S. diplomat says Washington is in talks with Houthi rebels to end the war in Yemen, reports Agence France-Presse. 

The U.S. is having talks "to the extent possible" with the Iran-backed rebels to negotiate an end to the conflict, Assistant Secretary of Near Eastern Affairs David Schenker said on Thursday from Saudi Arabia. 

A Houthi spokesman declined to confirm the report but said that the announcement was "a great victory" for the rebels.
