The Pakistani military says it has retaken the key town of Damadola in Bajaur in the country's northwest, the New York Times reports.
Taliban leaders, including senior commander Faqir Muhammad, escaped over the border into Afghanistan, Pakistani military officials said.
The town was virtually empty when the military moved in, according to a local government official.
