Taliban suicide bombers and gunmen were repelled Wednesday after attacking the provincial governor's compound in Nimroz province in southwestern Afghanistan, the Los Angeles Times reports.
At least five militants were killed in the assault, security officials said.
Two police officers and a member of the provincial council, which was meeting, also died in the hours-long siege.
Some of the fighting in Nimroz has apparently been sparked by insurgents who fled the U.S. Marine...
