Scores of Taliban militants have attacked a Pakistani security checkpoint in South Waziristan, reports the Voice of America News.
A battle began shortly after midnight on Thursday involving about 150 militants armed with rockets and heavy weapons, reported the BBC.
At least eight soldiers and 10 TTP insurgents were killed, said security officials.
The attack took place near the town of Makeen close to the Afghan border.
