Recurring problems with peeling hull coatings on early Virginia-class submarines have been fixed, says a top procurement officer cited by the Daily Press (Newport News, Va.).
The specialized anechoic coating, which absorbs active sonar waves making the subs harder to detect, now appears to be adhering better to the newer boats in the class, said Vice Adm. Kevin McCoy, the head of Naval Sea Systems Command.
