The U.S. Navy says a fire aboard a nuclear submarine at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard last month was caused by a vacuum cleaner, reports the Portsmouth Patch.
The May 23 fire onboard USS Miami (SSN-755) injured seven people and caused $400 million in damage, reported a statement from the service.
An unidentified heat source ignited debris in the vacuum after it was shut off and stored, said Navy officials.
