Sub Finally In Service; Boat Hit With Fire In 2004 On Maiden Voyage After Purchase From U.K.

The Canadian navy has commissioned its fourth Victoria-class submarine, reports the Lookout Newspaper (Victoria, British Columbia).

The Chicoutimi formally entered service on Sept. 3, at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt in British Columbia.

The sub was acquired used from the U.K. and suffered a fatal electrical fire while sailing to Canada in 2004. The fire caused severe damage, killing a crewmember and injuring eight.
