The U.S. needs to develop directed energy weapons in order to retain its technological edge over potential adversaries, says a new study cited by the Stars and Stripes.
The report from the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments says the U.S. military could field laser weapons within a decade that would be capable of destroying missiles and planes attacking ships and forward bases.
