Stronger Maritime Laws Needed, Says Navy Chief After Rescue

The Fiji navy has called for tighter rules for boaters after rescuing nine people on a fiber-glass boat that was drifting at sea on Tuesday night, reports the Fiji Broadcasting Corp.

Those rescued were drifting between Suva and Kadavu with three children aboard, reported China's People's Daily Online. The wrong gas may have been used, said the boat master.

Any boats without the appropriate clearance from authorities should pay for the costs if the navy has to rescue them,...
