The U.S. Navy has recently completed the last developmental test for the new AN/SPY-6 Air and Missile Defense Radar, reports the Navy Newsstand.
On Jan. 31, the AN/SPY-6(V)1 radar searched for, detected and maintained track on a short-range ballistic missile target launched from the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii, the service said.
The radar performed as predicted in its 15th and final developmental test against a ballistic target.
Program officials will analyze the telemetry and other data from the test to ensure that the system performed as required, reported United Press International.
Integrated air and missile defense testing started in March 2017.
The radar is scheduled for delivery on the guided-missile destroyer Jack H Lucas by 2020.
