The U.S. Dept. of Defense has been overcoming the obstacles that have blocked the spending of $1.62 billion that was approved by lawmakers last year for the training and equipping of Iraqi and Kurdish security forces, reports Bloomberg News.
The initial monies were spent last month, when an Iraqi brigade was equipped with rifles, machine guns, grenade launchers, assault packs and protective masks, according to the U.S. Central Command.
