The Mexican government has deployed elite troops to Culiacan in the northern Sinaloa state after fighting between police and cartel gunmen, reports Reuters.
On Monday, more than 400 special operations personnel were deployed to the city.
Vehicles fitted with machine guns were seen patrolling the city following the deployment.
The move came after police tried to arrest the son of convicted drug trafficker Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
