A top Congolese officer says the army has rescued a Spanish doctor who was kidnapped by northern rebels two weeks ago, Radio Netherlands reports.
Mario Zarza Manresa was seized on April 1 while travelling down the Congo River, said Congolese officials. Those rebels later attacked Mbandaka, the capital of northern Equateur province, sparking two days of fighting in which 36 people died.
