The army in southern Sudan has promised to end the use of child soldiers by the end of this year, Agence France-Presse reports.
U.N. officials say the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) has returned more than 22,000 child soldiers to civilian life in the past decade during efforts to transform from a rebel group into a regular army.
Some 900 children remain in the military force, according to the U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF).
