Hundreds of American soldiers in Iraq caught in the stop-loss program will return home early over the next two months, the Army News Service reports.
The move is intended to help bring down the mandated troop strength to 50,000 in Iraq by Sept. 1, said Army officials.
The stop-loss program was introduced to keep units intact during deployment. Troops whose enlistments were due to end could be extended during their unit's deployment.
