The Russian army is said to have deployed Smerch rocket artillery systems within the breakaway Georgian republic of South Ossetia, reports Interfax-AVN.
A squadron of Smerch systems has been based at the Russian Fourth military base since the installation was established in April, according to an unnamed Russian military source.
According to Moscow, the base was created at the request of the South Ossetian government.
