In Sierra Leone War-Crimes Case, International Court Convicts Former Liberian President

The former president of Liberia has been convicted of backing war crimes by a United Nations-backed court in the Netherlands, reports the New York Times.
On Thursday, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, based just outside The Hague, found Charles Taylor guilty of 11 counts of aiding and abetting war crimes, including murder, rape, slavery and the use of child soldiers.
The crimes took place in Sierra Leone during that country's civil war in the 1990s.
