Side Deals Being Probed As Sub Arrives From Germany

Amid controversy, the Portuguese navy has taken delivery of the first of two submarines it ordered from Germany, Defense News reports.
Portugal and the German Submarine Consortium signed a $1 billion contract six years ago for two U-214 submarines. Delays have since driven the cost up, officials said.
The Trident arrived at Lisbon Monday morning, while the second boat is expected in the first quarter of next year, Portuguese navy officials said.
