The Israeli military plans to establish a short-range rocket battalion that will be equipped with precision-guided munitions suited for strikes in populated areas, reports Haaretz.
The unit will conduct missions previously executed by air force aircraft, said military sources.
The battalion will initially have rockets with a range of up to 25 miles (40 km), but will eventually be upgraded with longer range weapons, the sources said.
