Iraqi Shi'ite militias say they have taken a strategic airbase west of Mosul from Islamic State fighters, reports the Middle East Eye.
The Popular Mobilization Forces, an umbrella group of Shi'ite militias, announced late Wednesday that they had seized Tal Afar airport. The town is about 60 km (37.2 mi) west of Mosul on the main road to Syria.
The militia group is also known as Hashd al-Shaabi, noted the World Bulletin (Turkey).
