Separatists Blamed For 1st Military Death Of Year

The government in Ukraine has reported its first military death of the new year, reports Reuters.

A Ukrainian serviceman was killed and five others injured due to "provocative actions" by pro-Russian separatists, said a military spokesman on Friday.

No specific details were given. There have been frequent shelling and mortar attacks by in areas in eastern Ukraine, noted the spokesman.
