Senior Alliance Military Job Goes To Briton For 1st Time

The defense chiefs of the NATO member states have elected Air Chief Marshal Stuart Peach, the British chief of defense staff, to serve as the next chairman of the NATO Military Committee, reports the alliance.
Peach will succeed Czech army Gen. Petr Pavel.
The chairman is the senior military adviser to NATO's secretary-general and North Atlantic Council. He represents the consensus-based views of the various defense chiefs to the alliance's civilian leadership.
