Senegalese General To Serve As Military Adviser For Peacekeeping Ops

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has named a Senegalese general as the new military adviser for U.N. peacekeeping missions, reports the U.N. News Service.

Senegal's Lt. Gen. Babacar Gaye recently served as the commander of the U.N. mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO), formerly known as MONUC. He held that post since 2005.

Gaye replaces Nigerian Lt. Gen. Chikadibia Isaac Obiakor, whose two-year term is scheduled to end on Sept. 12.
