Senate Confirms Marine Commandant Dunford As Next JCS Chief

The commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, Gen. Joseph Dunford, has been confirmed as the next chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reports Deutsche Welle.

The U.S. Senate on Wednesday unanimously confirmed Dunford to succeed Gen. Martin Dempsey as the nation's top military officer.

He will assume the job on Oct. 1., when Dempsey retires after a 41-year career in the Army.
