Kenyan security forces have rescued a senior government official who had been taken hostage by militants, reports Agence France-Presse.
Miriam El Maawy, who heads the public works department of the Infrastructure Ministry, was kidnapped with five others on Thursday by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in the coastal district of Lamu, said security sources.
