Security Council Puts New Sanctions On N. Korea, After Watering Down U.S. Proposal

The United Nations Security Council has adopted new sanctions against North Korea after its most recent nuclear test, reports CNN.

The sanctions were far short of those sought days before by the U.S. government, noted the New York Times.

The resolution passed unanimously on Tuesday after Russia and China agreed to reduced measures. This was the ninth such sanctions resolution since 2006 over North Korea’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs, reported Reuters.
