Security Council Grants Short Extension To Peacekeeping Mission

The U.N. Security Council has approved a one-month extension for its peacekeeping mission in Ivory Coast (UNOCI) and the French forces that support it while possible revisions to the mission's mandate are being considered, reports the U.N. News Service.

The UNOCI mission was established in 2004 to facilitate the peace process in the Ivory Coast, which found itself split into a rebel-held north and government-controlled south in a 2002 civil war.
