The Security Council has authorized the continuation of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Golan Heights between Israel and Syria, reports the U.N. News Service.
The U.N. Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) has operated in the region since 1974 to monitor the peace accord following the Yom Kippur War in 1973.
The mission will continue its work until Dec. 31, 2012, under the latest extension
