Security Council Extends Peacekeeping Mission

The Security Council has extended the mandate of the U.N. peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) for another year, reports the U.N. News Service.
After Tuesday's action, the mission is authorized to operate through June 30, 2012.
The mission is the largest in the world maintained by the U.N. The predecessor version began in 1999.
