Security Council Backs Land, Air Raids On Pirates

The U.N. Security Council has authorized the use of land and air operations against pirates operating off Somalia, the Washington Post reports.
The resolution passed on Tuesday authorizes nations to "use all necessary measures that are appropriate in Somalia" in pursuit of pirates, as long as they are approved by the Somalia's transitional federal government.
Nations are urged to contribute naval vessels and military aircraft to the anti-piracy effort.
