Security Checkpoints Set Up Around Kandahar City

NATO forces have taken a large step towards establishing security in the southern Afghan city of Kandahar, reports the Canadian Press.
The NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) late last week set up 12 checkpoints on major routes in and out of the city.
Each checkpoint has a full contingent of Afghan police and soldiers, including members of the U.S. 508th Infantry Brigade, as well as vehicle search bays, said Canadian Brig. Gen. Craig King.
