Rescuers are searching for two crewmembers after a French Mirage 2000D fighter jet went down in the eastern Jura department, reports the Local (Paris).
The plane disappeared from radar during a low-altitude training flight on Wednesday, officials said.
Wreckage from the jet was later discovered in a mountainous region near Mignovillard.
The crewmembers are considered missing and rescuers hope to find them alive, said an air force spokesman.
There were no reports of the crew ejecting before impact, he said. A parachute was found among the wreckage, though it was not clear if it had been used. The aircraft is also equipped with a parachute to assist with landing, the spokesman said, as quoted by CNN.
The area had received heavy snowfall in recent days and poor visibility may have contributed to the crash.
