The U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet is creating a new command to take responsibility for overseeing training and certification of ships based in Japan, reports the Navy Times, citing congressional testimony.
Adm. John Richardson, the chief of naval operations, announced the change Tuesday before the Senate Armed Services Committee. The hearing focused on recent at-sea incidents, including two fatal collisions with civilian vessels in the Pacific.
