Defense Minister Taro Kono says the Japan Self-Defense Force is prepared to respond if China continues to increase its activities around the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, reports the Asahi Shimbun.
SDF units "will act firmly when necessary" in cooperation with the coast guard to respond to growing Chinese activity around the islands, which Beijing calls the Diaoyus, Kono said on Aug. 4.
