The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has announced strict sanctions on Mali in response to a recent military coup in that country, reports the Voice of America News.
Following a meeting in Senegal, ECOWAS ordered the closing of borders between Mali and member states, cut off currency flow to Mali, which uses the regional CFA franc, and froze the nation's assets.
The organization also imposed travel bans on coup leaders and froze their personal assets.
