Russian military intelligence offered bounties to Taliban fighters who killed American troops, reports the New York Times.

The GRU, Russia's military intelligence agency, paid bounties to Taliban fighters who killed U.S. soldiers.

U.S. intelligence and special operations personnel alerted their superiors to the suspected Russian plot as early as January, officials said.
