Russia has said it is ready and willing to help Afghanistan strengthen its defense sector, Agence France-Presse reports,
Although a letter from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to Afghan President Hamid Karzai offered few details, Medvedev promised "to provide broad assistance for an independent and democratic country that lives in a peaceful atmosphere with its neighbors."
Moscow was responding to a request from Karzai, reported the BBC.
